12/20/00 -- EPI to co-sponsor the annual Take It Back! conference, slated for April 18-19, 2001 at the Holiday Inn, National Airport, near Washington D.C. The Take it Back! Conference, organized by Raymond Communications Inc., provides packaging and product makers with an opportunity to learn the latest on "extended producer responsibility" (EPR) policies, now on the books in 30 countries. Current packaging "take-back" laws are costing industry about $10 billion per year in Europe alone. The conference also covers Asia and Latin America, and provides packaging and product recycling case histories. Take It Back! speakers will include Karl-Heinz Florenz, the rapporteur of the WEEE Directives, director of EPRO, a new umbrella organization for plastics collection non-profits in Europe; an expert on the Australian packaging covenant, a consultant from KPMG in the U.K.; and the director of EKO-PAK, a trade organization in Poland.
