Battery Labeling Requirements

Labeling is arguably the most complex aspect of battery compliance. Nearly every jurisdiction that places environmental regulations on batteries also has labeling requirements. These vary by battery type/chemistry, jurisdiction, heavy metals content, and how the batteries are incorporated into the product/package.

In the case of batteries that are pre-installed in products, battery labeling rules have implications not only for the battery itself but also for the labeling of the product, package, and informational materials supplied with the product. While special rules for extremely small batteries and permanently welded-in batteries may be helpful for achieving compliance with a particular battery, they are not consistent in each market and may require replacing one symbol or statement with mutliple ones.
